Never Been Lived In

When the thing finally comes into focus

Loneliness is sneaky. I don’t look or feel like I’m deprived of anything… most of the time. But when I trace the lines of my dreams, desires, and creativity, they lead me back to the same place — a deep, dark room in my soul that has never been lived in.

I can’t say I understand it. Flashes of light show me the shape of it for a moment — then it’s dark again, gone before I can read what it’s for.

Maybe that’s the thing. A room only makes sense once someone’s living in it. Empty, it’s just walls in the dark.

Lord, be my companion and my guide. Come into this room. Not to fill it like you’d fill a hole — to live there. Each space in my soul was made by You, for You. Even this one. Even the dark I don’t understand.

Instruct me how to be human. Let my choices, my actions, my words today bring light to others — and let You bring light to the room in me.

My Maker, shape me today.

Maybe the ache was never the void needing to be filled. Maybe it’s the room, still calling for the One it was built to hold.

These go out as they’re written.
