Always Moving And Never Arriving
When nothing’s happening and you’re going anyway
Wake me up! Shake me up! The lull of the humdrum, the weight of the stress, the wear of my anxiety, wears me thin. I float around with my eyes half closed. I forget where I am, and who I am. My purpose is a hazy picture I can’t make out, so I stop looking at it. My days are like swimming in circles… without direction. Always moving and never arriving. Treading water just to keep my head up.
Where is Your hand, Lord, to lift me up and give me rest?
I cry to You when I am broken. I look to You when I fall. That’s my pattern — reaching for You when I’m at the bottom, when there’s nowhere else to reach.
But the truth is, I am never okay on my own. Not just when I’m at the bottom. Not just when I’m broken enough to notice. I need You in the flat, ordinary days too — when nothing’s wrong enough to drop me to my knees. Those are the days I drift — the days I forget.
I need You now, in this moment, as much as I need You in the moments I feel like I don’t.
Lord, wake me up and keep my eyes open as I walk through this life. I am fragile and worn. I cannot stand on my own now, and I don’t want to stand without You ever again.
Amen.
